The
parachutist's OXCON (Oxygen Console), which supplements the man-mounted
PHAOS, is a lightweight, portable multi-station oxygen system designed
to contain and distribute regulated oxygen for pre-breathing on
board the transport aircraft for up to eight persons. It was designed
as a self-contained, easy to operate, and virtually maintenance-free
oxygen system.
The OXCON consists of three pressurized cylinders, an on/off valve,
pressure regulator, supply and manifold pressure gauges and multi-station
oxygen distribution manifolds with quick disconnect fittings. These
components are contained within a compact, rugged, and reliable
structure.
It
can be easily installed for missions requiring oxygen and can
be simply recharged without disassembly or cleaning.
Multiple OXCONs can be interconnected to increase pre-breathing
duration. The basic 8-man OXCON System includes eight hoses/flow
blinker assemblies and an oxygen charging assembly.
The OXCON is a derivative of a console that has been designed,
developed and tested for helicopter use and meets all applicable
specifications. A 2-man OXCON is available for special applications.
